The Dragon’s Den
The Dragons Den was born out of a need. They say necessity is the mother of invention. Necessity arrived and the Dragons Den became. With Malik coming back from his 3rd year of study in China in 1987, a room for herbs to assist his patients in their healing was in need. When a small space next to his clinic became available, carpenters, friends and the community showed up to hammer out the beginnings of the Dragon's Den herb store.
His partner at the time, Joyanna lead the interior design on a "no budget" budget. Chinese Herbs back in the 1980s were not accessible as they are these days. So we started the store with bulk herbs, patent formulas and related gift items to pay the bills. Soon our herbal inventory grew to hundreds of western and Chinese herbs, nutracuetical supplements, therapeutic oils and Bach Flower Remedies.
The Dragon's Den opened it's doors on September 21st 1988 with blessings from our local Tibetan lama, Sufi teacher and Malik's Chinese language instructor. Three very intuitive and joy bringing men. A party was held in the Den, people from all over the island came and the Den was born.
The Dragon's Den got its name from an old shop in Shanghai which catered to the sailors needs of the then popular herbs, Grog and wonderful attendants. A special place indeed for many sailors.
